Drowning (Poem by Marysa Writes)

Do you know what it’s like to drown
In your own thoughts when no one’s around?
It’s like all air from your lungs leaves you with this painful sting
And in comes the water, your ears start to ring
Darkness slowly consumes your vision
And you’re left with the awful decision
To sink or swim, but now there’s a catch
It’s not like you can just open a hatch
You’re blind and you’re fighting, but to no prevail
You’ve already jumped in and set sail
The only thing now is for you to accept
You’ve lost this battle, full of regret
You let yourself go, float in the abyss
Don’t worry; you’re not the one that they’ll miss
Now you’re so cold, you start to go numb
You no longer have to hide now or run
It’s a calming sense of peace, when you let go of the panic
And you are free to tell life it can can it
Go ahead and let yourself fall to the bottom
Where sunken ships have stayed there to rotten
Floating in emptiness, what have you achieved?
The sickening realization that you cannot leave

  1. This is absolutely beautiful Mars, its very deep (literally, with the water XD) but really beautiful. I love how you kept the rhyming through out each line and how raw it feels. Its one of my favorites by you, wonderful job! :)

  2. Oh, wow, Marysa. I really find myself relating to this poem. It is very deep with the realization on how much our thoughts can control us rather than how much we can control our thoughts (my personal interpretation of your poem). These lines stood out to me especially:

"Go ahead and let yourself fall to the bottom
Where sunken ships have stayed there to rotten
Floating in emptiness, what have you achieved?
The sickening realization that you cannot leave."

When our thoughts consume us, it is very hard to leave, and to stay there is like an old comfort. I really loved reading this poem because of that in-depth aspect. More so, like Gabby mentioned, this does have a raw feel to it and that makes it even more emotional. Anyway, keep up the awesome work, as always! I loved this piece.
