Shining Bright (Poem by Mark Swift)

I’ve always wondered,
how the stars shine bright.
The darkness closes in,
and yet they still see light.
Yet brighter than them all,
Seems the storm in the sky.
It rolls across life,
but always remains up high.
Its darkness outshines the light,
And its rumble shadows the world.
How does it shine bright?
Brighter than the stars that are furled?
Yet when I look, really look,
In the sky I see, bright flashes of hope.
The thunder that follows curdles my bones,
But if the hope’s there, surely I can cope.

  1. I love this. Some people don't always realize the importance hope can have in some people's lives.

    1. -nods- 100% agree.
Among other reasons for me writing it (which I've already told you), I thought Hope might be a good theme, especially since the story Before Hope is going to be released soon :D

    2. Ah, marketing. Good idea, Mark! Ironically, even though hope is always present in "Before Hope", it doesn't become a central theme till the very end; during A New Hope (episode 4). Like the picture Mark painted, hope shines brightest at the darkest times, even if it does seem lost by the storm of terrible things and everyday life.

    3. Well, that was more of a side-thought, but sure lol

  2. This is awesome! Hope is such an under appreciated but critical part of one's everyday life. I love the image you painted with the stars and the storm. It really is beautiful metaphor and a relatable one at that. keep up the good work! (This is one of my top Mark Swift Poems!)

    2. I was thinking more that song by Rihanna (or w.e her name is)

    3. It made me think of Battle Cry by Imagine Dragons. "Stars are only visible in darkness"

  4. This is beautiful, I love how it made me think of sparkly diamonds and stars, and that last line is wow. Its amazing how a feeling could be interpreted into words so well, and I think we all have that small sense saying we can get through our adversities, well done, I love it!

    1. I wrote two more poems when I was gone, too! I'm going to schedule them to be posted tomorrow, but if you like this one, you'll like the new ones. One starts positive, goes negative for two lines, then goes back to positive in the final two lines. The other is more peaceful and content, but ends on a more negative note, as if regretful, so both have styles I have yet to post, and yet I think both of them are ones you'll like

    2. Yay! I'm excited to read them, I love the negative to positive poems, and the peaceful content one sounds like my style of poetry at times, but the negative not at the end sounds like it will take a turn and make it less peaceful but more interesting. I think I'll like them too, excited to read them! :)
