Together (Poem by Mark Swift)

Among the suns and stars,
the world spins.
Even fish swim in schools.
In this world, we're not alone,
We work together,
And build our cities.
But we abuse this gift,
And build up walls.

      I was traveling with...-coughs- friends -coughs again-...and we were all laughing, talking, and making jokes, and the theme of unity popped into my head. Then after writing the first six lines, my emotions darkened a tad and I decided to write an ending that reflects human nature. Walls, however, are realistically important. These days, there are so many evil people in the world that we need walls in order to stay safe; that's what's sad

    Wow, that last line, it's so true, but as you said, walls are a good thing. I really love this, and the references, like everyone's poetry is so amazing when in reference to something/an object, really great job! -double thumbs up

    AHHH! Another favorite poem! What must all your poems be so good!
    Oooo... A cautionary tale! I really do love the positive nature of this poem tainted with a drop of darkness. The "even fish swim in schools" line it great. I love it when poems use nature as an example.
