Lucas Stories: What Is it? (December 2019)

"What is it, Father?" the boy asked, staring at awe in the strange substance.
"It's called sand," his father responded. "It's only found here in Florida, nowhere else. Just like how you can't find snow here in Florida."
"But snow's everywhere!" the boy cried out. "Every winter it comes and covers everything!"
"Not here in Florida," his father corrected.
The boy sent his hand into the light-brown substance. The sand gave way immediately, ensnaring his hand. With a yelp of surprise, he drew his hand back without thinking. "It ate me!"
"It's like snow," his father told him. "But it's not cold. It can be warm, but it isn't cold."
The boy experimentally (and slowly) reached for the pile again, and this time, he marveled at it. It wasn't soft like snow, but it was welcoming. It wasn't cold like snow, it was warm. It felt like he had plunged his hand into dirt, except that when he lifted his hand, the sand fell away like water. Next, the boy stuck his nose by the sand and sniffed, and smelled the welcoming fragrance of the ocean. "Sand is better!" he decided.
"It depends on who you are," his father smiled sadly. "I grew up here, and I love snow much more. The rarer the item, the more we appreciate it."

-Author's Note

This takes place in an alternate universe. There is plenty of sand in the world. Too much sand.

  2. Haha, I love this, but your hatred for sand is concerning.

    1. I know it's creepy that my level of dislike for sand is equal to Anakin Skywalker's, but I really just don't like it. If I wear sandals and shorts, and never get wet, it's fine, but then I'm confined to staying away from the water, and I love the water. If I get wet, or don't wear sandals, or wear long pants, the sand takes forever to get off, and makes a mess in the car, and then the experience wasn't worth it. That's why I prefer pools and boat dives than shore dives and beaches

    2. You are the only person in florida who feels this way

    3. Not really, I know a couple people who agree. It's a very, very vast minority, though

    4. I thought, I was the only one who disliked sand. Its scratchy and sticks to your legs. But,my mom told me the sand she used to to roll herself in, in Cuba was easy to wash off. I don't know. The one here feels like pricking broken pieces of shell. Though, its beautiful in the sunlight. Unless, it real hot, then sand is bad again. It burns your feet, that you're hopping all over the beach on your tip toes. Sand is as bad as raccoons.

    5. P.S.
So far, your story seems really sweet. Is your main character a little boy?

    6. Lol You're not alone, sand here sucks XD
The main character is basically the equivalent of an 8 year old. I'm trying to come up with a series name for it, because I want to write one a month featuring the boy, but Idk

    7. Oh, okay. Yeah, I really liked the little boy right off the bat. I usually like younger characters like that. Anyway, you could call it "Sandy Adventures." (Maybe that's too cheesy.) "A Golden Rarity," "The Opposite of Snow," "Sand is Bad," "Sand Boy." (Okay, none of them are good. At all. ) Maybe, you can name it after the character or call it something inspired by an event in the story. Even, something symbolic with a double meaning. I don't know.

    8. Yea, idk, those don't seem to accurately reflect what I'm going for. Maybe Lucas Stories

  3. I love this. The little moral about rareness is so awesome! It's so cute to see Lucas's wonder to sand.
yeah, I hate sand too. The thing that's like fingernails on a chalk boards for me is sand up my fingernails. It just sends chills up my spine. I don't know why.
    Haha. Anakin. Your new nickname.
