Paid the Price (Poem by Kyra Organa)

All of us had paid the price Because of our belief Creature’s freedom, for the “greater good” is the sacrifice Destitute souls everywhere are begging for relief Evil cruelty has ravaged all Faithless leaders driven by corruption Greatness comes before the fall Hail! Before long there’ll be an eruption Ideas, hopes, and dreams are born Justice is demanded, and they won’t turn back “Kaboom!” goes the capital, now battle scarred and torn Lights in the sky, flames from the recent attack Men and women struggle to thrive Now worse than before, more lives are lost Objecting to the slaughter yet fearing for their lives People are wondering if it’s worth the cost Questioning the world they know, Rebellion is growing Sacrifices are made, lives are lost, although, The fight is showing no signs of slowing Unknown the enemy, their regime is falling Vacating their territory, they surrender Weaker than they knew possible, away they go crawling X-ed out of their point of great splendor Yet in the shadows, they rebuild their army Zeroing in on their next enemy

Author's Note: The is an acrostic poem that can apply both to the real world, dystopias, and my Before hope story, so enjoy!

Mark's Addition: This was submitted for her marathon on the 1st of February.

  1. Even if this was for a fictional story, I loved the message and meaning behind it. It kind of shows the destruction of humans, with as well communicating the aspects of a rebellion.
